The English Aviator Jacket by MotivMfg x Division Road is designed as a meeting point between vintage European flight jackets and modern tailored outerwear pieces made for the future. This jacket is derived from an early 20th-century aviator style infused with elements of British Naval and Air Force overcoats, recreated in an anatomically tailored fit. Set-in front and articulated raglan sleeves and a split back yoke combine with a French pleat borrowed from industrial-era workwear to allow for movement with a design-centric approach in a cut perfectly balanced between vintage and contemporary. This jacket is made in a heavyweight 20 oz. Charcoal Double Weave Performance Coating cloth made to MotivMfg's specifications in collaboration with Scotland's renowned Lovat® Mill using 100% Shetland Wool in a fabric made for the outdoors. With a focus on true sustainability and traceability through vertical production, this Performance Tweed is made from ethically sourced mulesing-free fleece from wild-raised Shetland Sheep on the northern Scottish Islands local to Lovat® Mill, the "Home of Tweed," established in 1826. Using a thick and robust Cheviot yarn for the warp face and pliable Shetland yarn for the weft, this double-faced interwoven hopsack provides dutiful performance and drape. It boasts a complex cloth using shades of charcoal, grey, and natural yarns for a sophisticated woven aesthetic and luxurious, textured finish. This English Aviator Jacket is designed with a rolling double-breasted front with a notched collar and a hidden storm throat tab that can be buttoned up completely to combat weather while offering styling versatility. Paying homage to the originals with a finished sophistication, this jacket is fully lined with Tencel in the body and Bemberg lined sleeves, Japanese canvas for the pyramid stitched elbow patches and zigzag stitched back collar reinforcements, and beautifully shaped overstitched wide welt hand pockets and interior buttoned chest pockets. This piece is packed with superior bespoke and old-world detailing like a curved front hem, adjustable tab button cuffs, felled seams, bartack reinforcements throughout, and genuine horn buttons with a unique polished finish. MotivMfg has re-established a pattern-to-bespoke garment one-roof workshop in Beijing with the ethos, process, techniques, and materials of Savile Row to produce historically informed garments in styles and production methods lost by the West.
