Description

The French Army Shawl Sack Jacket by MotivMfg x Division Road is designed as a meeting point between vintage French military and workwear chore coats, tailored and made for the future. This piece is derived from a French Armed Forces utility jacket, redesigned with a tailored fit that references sack jackets popularized during the industrial era. It bridges formal and casual styling with a rolling 2-button double-breasted front, an elongated shawl collar with a top button closure, and a single-piece back that allows for a full, unstructured drape. This jacket is crafted in a 12 oz. Camel Twill Woolen Cloth milled by the storied Abraham Moon® using fine 100% British Lambswool Merino wool in a directional pattern with a brushed flannel finish, resulting in an incredibly durable and soft fabric. One of the few remaining vertical mills, Moon produces this special twill with the first shear of their own Merino sheep, which is spun into lightly dyed yarns and woven to create a tonally subtle, textured, camel-and-tan-speckled palette. This French Army Shawl Sack Jacket is unstructured, featuring a fully lined Cotton/Lyocell blended twill body and bemberg-lined sleeves for practical refinement and comfort. Paying homage to the originals but elevated with tailored sophistication, this jacket features beautifully shaped and utilitarian pocketing, including a rounded patch chest pocket and lower pockets, as well as dual chest interior patch pockets for accompaniments. This piece is packed with superior bespoke and old-world detailing, such as tailor's construction that allows for easy alterations, felled seams, bartack reinforcements, and genuine horn buttons with a unique vintage finish. MotivMfg has re-established a pattern-to-bespoke garment one-roof workshop in Beijing with the ethos, process, techniques, and materials of Savile Row to produce historically informed garments in styles and production methods lost by the West. We are honored to partner with MotivMfg to offer exclusive collaborations for a new and timeless uniform for the Division Road Army.

Sizing

Model Measurements: 5'9" | 150 lbs. | 38" Chest | 32" Waist - Wearing Size 46(S)

MotivMfg runs typical of traditional tailoring, and we suggest sizing to your measured chest (+8-10" per Italian Sizing) or taking your more common Alpha size. MotivMfg is graded in smaller increments—if between sizes, you can size these garments depending on primary layering intention and style preferences.

All of our MotivMfg offerings are exclusive to Division Road, and by default, we make standard adjustments to the pattern and body to make the fit relatable. Our Sizing Guide provides garment-specific measurements taken in-house, per Our Method. These measurements are not duplicated across fabric or colorways and are re-measured each production run. Collection: MotivMfg

Created in Beijing by Daniel Gu and Samuel Wei in 2016, MotivMfg seeks to break down the duality between handmade and machine-made clothing. Based in the converted loft of a former 1950's factory, all developments, from sketch to garment, are done within the MotivMfg studio. Using European tailoring methods dating back to the 1920’s, all patterns are hand drafted then implemented with drape and baste fittings on real life models, ensuring the spontaneity of creativity.
