Collection: Maja Sandvang
Maja Sandvang is a Danish-born ceramicist whose functional and sculptural artworks reflect a refined, minimalist philosophy shaped by a life of creativity and exploration. Now based in Scottsville, Virginia, Maja’s artistic journey began with a love for drawing and watercolor painting – mediums that offered a foundation in spontaneity and form. After relocating to the United States, Maja’s search for creative connection led her to the ceramics studio, where she discovered a new language for her hands and heart. Captivated by the tactile immediacy of clay, she embraced the medium’s ability to balance control and chance. Her work centers around everyday wares – vessels for food, drink, and ritual – that celebrate asymmetry, imperfection, and the quiet beauty of the handmade. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, shaped through a contemplative process that values intuition over rigid planning. Maja’s wheel-thrown forms carry a naturalistic warmth and character, combined with hand-glazing techniques that are painterly, creating functional ceramics that are both minimal and expressive, designed to be lived with. Focusing on tactility, utility, craft, and a timeless aesthetic, Maja Sandvang’s ceramics reflect the Division Road ethos: artful objects grounded in craftsmanship, designed with purpose, and made to endure.
