The Swiss Army Overcoat by MotivMfg x Division Road is designed as a meeting point between WWI trench coats and modern, tailored outerwear pieces made for the future. This coat is derived from 1920s Swiss and Eastern European military overcoats, recreated in an anatomically tailored fit with set-in sleeves, a center-middle back pleat to allow for movement, and a buttoned tab to adjust the drape in an outstanding fabric that will naturally outlast any generation or future war. Providing a substantial form in a cut perfectly balanced between vintage and contemporary, this coat is made in a 28 oz. Box Weave Overcoating woolen cloth that is produced entirely of undyed 100% British Wool in varying shades of natural sheep shear, which is woven with thick yarn to provide immense movement and flexibility in a hefty fabric. From one of England’s oldest mills dating to 1782, Marling & Evans®, this tweed has a durable and pronounced texture while remaining free of chemicals. It is only processed in a simple soap wash to retain the natural oils of the wool for weather resistance, a soft hand, and a finished feel. It boasts a complex and defined box weave pattern using ecru, natural, and grey shades for an artisanal luxury finish and aesthetic. This Swiss Army Overcoat is designed with a rolling double breast front and buttoned notched collar with an additional and removable anatomical throat latch to combat weather with styling and functional versatility along with cotton flannel and Tencel lined body and Bemberg lined sleeves, resulting in a finely finished, dutiful, and comfortable fall-winter coat with an optimally structured drape. Paying homage to the originals via practical refinement, this coat has beautifully shaped utilitarian pocketing with slanted wide welt and overstitched front pockets, four interior buttoned pockets for carrying various armaments, and tab button cuffs for styling in stormy conditions. This coat is packed with superior bespoke and old-world detailing like taped and felled seams, zigzag back collar stitching, bartack reinforcements throughout, and genuine natural corozo buttons with a unique matte finish. MotivMfg has re-established a pattern-to-bespoke garment one-roof workshop in Beijing with the ethos, process, techniques, and materials of Savile Row to produce historically informed garments in styles and production methods lost by the West.
