The Swiss Army Officer Coat by MotivMfg x Division Road is designed as a meeting point between WWI officer coats and modern tailored outerwear pieces made for the future. This coat is derived from 1920s Swiss and Eastern European military overcoats, recreated in an anatomically tailored fit with raglan sleeves and a center quad back pleat to allow for movement and a buttoned tab to adjust the drape in an outstanding fabric that will naturally outlast any generation or future war. Providing a substantial form in a cut perfectly balanced between vintage and contemporary, this coat is made in a limited bolt, heavyweight 18 oz. Grey Flannel Tweed Twill weave produced at the 200-year-old original Somerset mill by the world-famous Fox Brothers® using the finest 100% British Merino Wool in a worsted, suiting grade fabric engineered for the outdoors. Since 1772, Fox Brothers has produced top-tier textiles used in many applications, from Savile Row tailoring to British Military garments. By sourcing the best fibers from around the world and using intensive hand-driven milling and cording processes, they produce fabrics of the highest grade with comfort, density, and durability, all wrapped into one. This incredibly flexible and robust twill wool comes in a natural palette to reflect the Devon coast countryside transitioning into the Exmoor wilderness it's designed to confront. It boasts a complex cloth using shades of grey, charcoal, and natural yarns for a sophisticated aesthetic and luxurious, textured finish. This Swiss Army Coat is designed with a rolling 4-button front and buttoned notched collar to combat weather with styling and functional versatility along with a Tencel twill and featherwale cotton corduroy body and Bemberg sleeve lining, resulting in a finely finished, dutiful, and comfortable multi-season coat with a sophisticated drape. Paying homage to the originals via practical refinement, this coat has a lower front button storm tab and center vent, adjustable tab button cuffs, and beautifully shaped utilitarian pocketing with deep curved buttoned front welt pockets and a buttoned pass-through to access the interior in stormy or cold conditions along with an interior buttoned pocket for carrying small armaments. This coat is packed with superior bespoke and old-world detailing like taped and felled seams, zigzag back collar stitching, bartack reinforcements throughout, and genuine ebony horn buttons with a unique matte finish. MotivMfg has re-established a pattern-to-bespoke garment one-roof workshop in Beijing with the ethos, process, techniques, and materials of Savile Row to produce historically informed garments in styles and production methods lost by the West. We are honored to partner with MotivMfg to offer completely exclusive collaborations for a new and timeless uniform for the Division Road Army.

Created in Beijing by Daniel Gu and Samuel Wei in 2016, MotivMfg seeks to break down the duality between handmade and machine-made clothing. Based in the converted loft of a former 1950's factory, all developments, from sketch to garment, are done within the MotivMfg studio. Using European tailoring methods dating back to the 1920’s, all patterns are hand drafted then implemented with drape and baste fittings on real life models, ensuring the spontaneity of creativity.
