It’s a special day at Division Road when our collaboration collections from MotivMfg arrive — as so much sourcing, consideration, coordination, communication, and craftsmanship goes into each of these pieces — and they never disappoint. Our approach with Motiv remains the same since the introduction of this pinnacle producer — to reinforce their design and material approach with fits, detailing, and comprehensive redesigns to present our market with some of the most unique, special, and tailored pieces in the world. Each capsule collection thematically transports you to an era of inspiration. This week, we are pleased to present the Advanced Golden Age Archives.
This collection with MotivMfg comes with tailoring pieces inspired by the industrial boom of the 1920’s and outerwear from pre- and post-WWII, completely recreated to serve as style-heavy armor and future-heritage goods that will remain timeless for decades. Designed on-body in completely anatomical patterns and crafted with old-world sensibilities in Beijing’s best studio, the custom construction methods, trims, and hardware largely absent from today’s garments are what make MotivMfg pieces truly unmatched.
Most of the Advanced Archives collection comes in the remaining yardage of one of our favorite recent Fox Brothers® series — the 18 oz. Tweed Twill — produced at the famous 200-year-old Somerset mill as a limited run recreation that applies signature worsting to yarns developed to have a varied texture, which are then dyed in nature’s tones. This merino wool cloth provides durability and drape to each garment in a multi-season weight, boasting rich character that redefines luxury with a balance between rustic and refined.
Our best patterns from the archives come in fresh renditions. The French Hunting Jacket reemerges renewed in a Fox Bros Dark Olive Twill Tweed exterior and Brisbane Moss Moleskin interior for a draped and tailored version of one of our most popular designs. Our English Aviator Jacket, Swiss Army Officer Coat, and double-breasted Swiss Army Overcoat are also given a more approachable weight and dramatic flow with the same considered construction, detailing, and comprehensive design elements to serve as well-worn pieces from fall through early spring.
For new developments, we have a French Draftsman Shirt inspired by workwear shirting and given era-correct tailoring details in a brilliantly bold Rust Brown Japanese Military-spec Twill with a Flannel interior. As the icon of the season, we have adapted the body and fit of Motiv’s new vegetable-tanned Dark Brown Horsehide Leather Sidcot Jacket. This is one of the cleanest designed and finest crafted leather outerwear pieces one will ever experience, with inspiration and components combined from Royal Air Force Flight Jackets and 1940’s Car Coats assembled with proportional and anatomical mastery.
Whether a renaissance man, a hyper-nostalgic bloke, or one who’s driven entirely toward the modern, our works with MotivMfg are as versatile in wardrobe styling as they are diverse in inspiration. These garments possess a distinct competency of style convertibility that can carry or complement ensembles as you journey into different inspirations, modes, or silhouettes — which is what makes them a signature to the new-heritage era.
