Description

The Studio D'Artisan 4604 Boro Sashiko Jacquard Jacket in Brown is a limited collection piece, produced in an exclusive 12 oz. Japanese Amami Dorozome Mud Dyed cloth to serve as an all-natural, style-forward heritage collector’s item. The intensive 1,300-year-old Dorozome mud dyeing technique is performed in the local iron-rich soil baths of the small island of Amami-Oshima using completely natural extracts derived from the sap, wood chips, and mulch of the native Japanese Hawthorne tree. This Amani Dorozome Sashiko Jacket uses an exclusive Japanese jacquard, loomed with slubbed yarns for a multi-patterned patchwork design and integrated sashiko threads to replicate artistically repaired boro fabrics on the body with a box-weave sashiko cloth for the sleeves, pocket, and trim. These all-season heavyweight sashiko cloths have a uniquely saturated color, only achievable through this natural, bio-degradable yarn dyed process, and are heavily garment-washed for softness and to create a fabric that will evolve quickly with a personalized patina that reveals the heavily textured woven pattern. The Studio D'Artisan Boro Sashiko Jacket is inspired by shop jackets and sportswear garments from the 1940s, featuring a modern raglan sleeve design that provides mobility and drapes well for various body types. This jacket is elevated with details like the D-patch front pockets, a Universal copper zipped front placket, custom natural tagua nut buttons for the cuffs, and an adjustable hem with back waist tabs and copper buckles. Further, this piece is enhanced with construction and finishing details like chainstitched and felled seams and bartack reinforcements throughout. The SDA Amami Dorozome Mud Dyed Boro Jacquard Jacket is a vintage-inspired, fashion-forward piece with durable, old-world provenance, transporting you on a journey into the ancient past through present styles, courtesy of a standout 40-year-old producer of heritage denim.

Collection: Studio D'Artisan

Born 40 years ago in response to the mass production boom of 1979, Studio D’Artisan is one of the original players in the reproduction movement with Japanese manufacturers that embraced shuttle loom selvedge denim production as the western world adopted larger, more efficient, and lower quality loom technology. D’Artisan brings French design and workwear influence to Japanese handmade craftsmanship with one-roof production in Okayama, Japan. Specializing in shrink-to-fit fabric, SDA produces great fitting denim with simple artisan detailing that has...
