At Division Road we painstakingly explore how leathers, patterns, soles, and construction types yield not only stylish pieces, but those that will perform with their intended purpose and get better with age in all regards. Our Tonal Traveler Series is at the heart of this approach, with a functional and sartorial ingenuity achieved via simplicity as the backbone of these hearty builds. The novel idea at the time of taking the officer dress boot Last of the 2030, with its sophisticated silhouette, and combining it with the more utilitarian rounded, curved, and rolling Vibram 2060 industrial walking sole yielded one of the best on-foot aesthetics with stylistic versatility we could have hoped to create.
By tapping into a world of possibilities in terms of throw-and-go boots that look great with pretty much anything, along with providing functionality in a host of environments and lifestyles, it established the connection to highlight the commanding virtue of understated forms and the rugged elegance of Viberg craftsmanship. In honor of evolution, we bring you a completely fresh Tonal Traveler Series Redux to debut Viberg’s new in-house cork filled and wood shank components now used in their stitchdown construction to make that footwear more natural, flexible, and lighter on foot while providing even more molding potential in the same venerable, lifetime re-buildable boots.
Using the same formula of elevated Horween workboot leathers, tonal specifications informed through institutional knowledge, and our steady Vibram 2060 Sole we created three new collaborations that are designed to endure and evolve to be indispensable boots in any collection. All the while, this series reinforces our position that, to get the most out of our footwear, you need to harness their strength by testing them whether it be through the paved streets of the city or the rough paths of the outdoors. We don’t believe in the tender care of our footwear and these travelers will bind the excursions they have experienced with a patina that relates your personal journey of style-life. To cap it off, we bring you the collaboratively developed Workwear Beanie as a pairing that speaks to the old and new for a head to toe honoring of heritage.
First, we bring you a highflying Scout inspired by fighter pilot boots with a considered and clean brown and black palette. Designed as a completely one-off outlier to the series, this military-meets-street make-up comes in Horween’s rare Chromepak that's a full-chrome tannage of hand selected hides packed with a prolific amount of oil and wax throughout. The Saddle Tan Chromepak with burnt blood orange undertones pairs with standard issue paint brown eyelets and perfectly contrasts a black 360 storm welt and sole. Designed on the Munson-based 2040 Last for comfort and duty, this durable trekking Scout Boot will bomb down the streets and through the woods with a graceful and gritty style.
Then, for a stealthy and slick Service Boot, we have the Charcoal Chamois designed with our original tonal traveler formula with specifications that will continue to reveal and uphold the merits of understanding how elements relate and develop over time. This new make-up uses the grain side of Horween’s Chamois, an oil-tan recipe on steroids that’s nubucked for both a natural feel and to allow the surface to be constantly renewed and protected. Combined with gunmetal eyelets, a black wash midsole, black outsole stitching, and a Black CXL tongue, this matte coal colored make-up will warm and grey over time throughout its travels to be the sly make-up that will weather the outdoors with outlier style.
Lastly, we have a core collectable for the warm wanderer in a Faded Wheat Chamois Roughout Service Boot that employs our tone-on-tone details in a make-up that speaks to the heritage revival, redux. This boot uses the roughout flesh side of Horween’s Chamois leather to provide textured protection with a brushed oily nap that will deeply patina to encapsulate its conquering of all conditions with a golden color that will be marked and enhanced by its travels. Paired with antique brass eyelets, a natural leather midsole, and Natural CXL tongue, this make-up is made to take on hikes to the hills or traverse through town in a vintage aesthetic with subtle details that will develop into a richly weathered style sidekick.
Coming as a tip of the knit cap, we have an extra-special Viberg accessory we developed in collaboration to reference their workboot background with a refined accompaniment. Hallmarking Viberg’s advancement of legacy, we took an archival woven label and reproduced it in a classic black and vintage white palette reminiscent of their original branding with a work-meets-street sensibility. This Canadian made four-seamed crown, double layered, and folded cuff beanie produced in an Italian merino wool blend is perfectly paired with the vintage labelling to combine old and new heritage style in a piece designed to be worn throughout various seasons and journeys.
