White’s x Division Road Collaboration
This week, we have a solo White’s x Division Road collaboration to give proper and special attention to a refreshed development. The Semi-Dress Chukka dives deeper into the original military desert boot roots of this style with new pattern adaptations and an aesthetic configuration that further strengthens the connection. Coming in Horween’s Olive Waxed Flesh, it takes the original military-spec’d Marine Field Leather to the next level with a hardened, dyed-wax tanning treatment. As the surface is scuffed and scarred, this robust, maintenance-free flesh-side hide will reveal a natural roughout nap below, tonally coordinating with the heavy-duty tan upper thread and brass eyelets, down to the foundation of a Natural CXL hand-welt, a natural leather midsole, and a sand Vibram 2060 industrial sport sole.
Originally, we worked from White’s Goodyear-welted chukka pattern and made slight adaptations for the hand-sewn stitchdown construction, with a few tweaks to the pattern. For this evolution, we refined the style to enhance its battle-dress-uniform disposition, adding a semi-dress quarter-panel stitchline that contains the counter structure for the heel and allows the quarter to remain unlined for increased flexibility at the open collar. To finalize the clean design, we added a cut-edge collar and a sophisticated backstay to allow pants to break neatly and subtly reveal the shortened boot height and the curved lines of this minimal two-piece pattern.
After testing, we found the Chukka is optimally built on the Northwest Last, featuring an anatomical round toe in a comfortable D width. It is pattern-matched to fit a wide range of feet, with a shorter height and a minimally laced style. This new Semi-Dress Chukka offers a proportionally balanced, stout build with sleek lines, in a considered composition that suits a variety of styles and fit profiles, making it a go-to one-off limited edition designed to improve with wear and patina, with purpose.
