Viberg x Division Road Collaborations

With a grand reveal, our Waxed Reverse Horsebutt Chelsea collaborations with Viberg are finally here to arm the farming, range roving, triumphant riding, and timepiece collecting men of mystery for whom these boots are made to equip. For those who embrace imperfection as a virtuous mark of rarity, this single batch horsebutt tannage comes with an ideal formula.

Produced specifically for Viberg by Maryam, one of Italy's premier vegetable tanneries, these handpicked hides comprise one of the most unique and extreme leathers we’ve ever seen. Horsebutt is one of our favorite types of leather, as the hide above the shell portion yields an extremely dense and durable leather that molds to the foot and produces a beautiful patina. Horsebutt is also a rarer article; when Shell is split off the hide the Horsebutt becomes compromised for full weight usage and, with the price that Shell commands, it’s the more popular production within most tanneries.

In our view, a full weight Horsebutt is prized because of its resilience with limited maintenance, intense and varied grain character, and propensity to evolve to a great degree. With those criteria this tannage would be considered a grail of grain, used on the reverse side where portions of shell to the flesh are revealed for significant changes in texture and tone. The process of drum dying and waxing in tanning deepens the distinction of the hides, making each pair completely unique to the wearer and certain to develop markedly as the cordovan extracts and finishing combine.

Fully exemplified in Viberg’s perfected Wholecut Chelsea pattern, this Waxed Reverse Horsebutt will command attention whether wandering the wilds or walking the runway. Experience the glory of the grain as an original gentleman who embodies individuality through the curation of the exceptional, with each of these make-ups that boasts a personality and character made for any true collector of craftsmanship.
