Releases from Fortela and Samurai

This week, we have a story of the classics, inspired by utilitarian military-issue garments, evolved with unique materials and improved fits to remain as purposeful today as they were in the last century, still providing daily functionality with a new style script. Hailing from Alessandro Squarzi's vintage archives, which have contributed some of menswear’s best up-productions over recent decades, to Tohru Nogami’s wild creations that masterfully combine elements and techniques from ancient Japan, resulting in some of the most unique collectible renditions of heritage icons. Encapsulated in a palette- and theme-driven collection, every detail and material inspires daily wear with a sartorial blend of vintage and modern.

Fortela

Born from Squarzi’s deep study of vintage military and workwear, Fortela’s tailored approach to utilitarian goods ensures that every garment carries a lived-in lineage in a new form. Drawing on wartime mechanical and field shirt jackets, reimagined in Italian and Japanese fabrics, this collection presents a new casual-dress perspective that transitions effortlessly into everyday wear.

Pieces like the Japanese Canvas Richard Army Overshirt in Sage and Sand and the Kamo Herringbone Twill Clays Utility Jacket pair with an array of our favored New Fatigue Trousers, which echo classic army utility. At the same time, refined proportions, enhanced detailing, and thoughtful drape keep them rooted in present-day wardrobes. In an elegant thread between past and present, this collection elevates the archetype of functional clothing into the realm of timeless tailored staples.

Samurai Jeans

Samurai approaches utility through the lens of Japanese textile mastery, with a workwear DNA, building on cloth developed in storied shuttle loom mills that engineer new textures and qualities in vintage weights that develop further with each season of wear. The Black Elemental Flannel Work Shirt reinterprets a classic work silhouette in natural extract-dyed heavy slub yarns and robust triple-stitched seams, offering a tactile yet tailored expression of a function-forward piece.

The Tropical Weather Dobby Shirt shifts the narrative toward breathability with a textural nuance, while the SJ52BP 15 oz. Heavy Back Satin Canvas Baker pant brings a military pant lineage into selvedge-ready form, rewarding years of wear. Here, Samurai’s pieces resonate as considered tools of dress: sartorially cultured, technically grounded, and rich with character shaped by time and use.
