Description
The Viberg x Division Road Gallun Caper Viking Calf Service Boot is an updated version of Viberg’s original work boot, designed by company founder Edwin Viberg in 1931 and inspired by a standard issue military boot pattern used by several nations during WWII. This exclusive-to-Division Road Service Boot uses a limited batch, full-weight combination vegetable-tanned Viking Calf from small batch Gallun Tannery in Milwaukee that specializes in rare, hand-finished hides and archival recipes. This recreated century-old tannage uses hand-selected calf hides that are naturally aniline drum dyed with a custom wax blend applied by hand at various stages, providing a refined finish and tightened grain break in a robust and durable leather that's naturally weather and scuff resistant. Molded on the ever-popular 2030 Last, the boot is fully lined with French binding and complemented with a brogue cap toe, brass eyelets, and a natural leather midsole atop a French Leather sole that will form to any gait while serving as an elevated resource in any rotation. With each boot carefully assembled by exacting Viberg craftspeople using stitchdown construction, this piece is perfect for those seeking an easily paired, classic Service Boot taken to the next level of craft and refinement.

Lasts
2030 Last (E Width): The 2030 Last is the most Common Viberg Last and serves as a good comparison in the rest of our guide for size and shape. The 2030 is based on a Last used for Canadian Military Officer dress uniform footwear. This Last features a low profile, almond-shaped and elongated toe box, high instep, moderate waist, and narrow heel. The 2030 is designed as a sleek form that accommodates most feet from D to EE widths. The 2030 is very comparable to an Alden Barrie D/E Last in terms of fit, and we typically recommend sizing at least a half (.5) size to one (1) size down from most boot manufacturers like Alden or Red Wing. We also find most feet take the same size in a Viberg 2030 Last as a Tricker’s 4497s or w2298 Lasts.
1035 Last (E Width): Developed for the Derby Shoe pattern and later adapted as a round-toe alternative to the 2030 Last while maintaining certain aesthetics of the dress shape. The 1035 Last has a low profile, rounded toe box, and moderate instep, waist, and heel. The 1035 is designed as a casual form with a comfortably snug fit throughout that accommodates D to E+ widths. The 1035 is considered a Viberg Common Last on their standard grade and is consistent with a 2030 Last size.
2040 Last (E Width): Based on a Munson Last, the military-inspired 2040 Last is a milder version of the 2045 original. The 2040 features an average profile, rounded and roomy toe box with a slight bump toe, moderate instep, tapered waist, and narrow heel. The 2040 is designed as a modern heritage boot shape with a comfortable fit through the forefoot and a snug waist and heel that accommodates C to E+ widths. The 2040 is considered a Viberg Common Last on their standard grade and is consistent with a 2030 Last size.
2045 Last (EEE Width): A traditional Munson Last, anatomically designed and developed by the US Army to accommodate a wide range of foot shapes. The 2045 features a high profile, rounded and roomy toe box with a bump toe, above-average instep, tapered waist, and narrow heel. The 2045 is designed as a true heritage boot shape to be an option for those with wider feet with spacious volume throughout and accommodates D to EEE widths. The 2045 is off-grade from Viberg’s standard sizing, and generally, we recommend going a half (.5) size down from a Viberg Common Last (2030 Last).
2055 Last (EE Width): Adapted to be a sleeker version of the traditional 2045 Munson Last anatomically designed and developed by the US Army. The 2055 features a low profile, rounded and roomy toe box, above average instep, tapered waist, and narrow heel. The 2055 is designed as a sophisticated heritage boot shape with above-average volume that grips the foot in the back and accommodates D to EE widths. The 2055 is considered a Viberg Common Last on their standard grade and is consistent with a 2030 Last size.
310 Last (E Width): A vintage Last pulled from the work boot archives, originally designed to provide a natural rocking heel-to-toe gait to avoid slipping and tripping on worksites. The 310 Last features a high profile, sprung toe with a generous toe box, high instep, and moderate waist and heel. The 310 is designed as a hammock for the foot with substantial volume throughout and a higher heel height to be a functional work boot that accommodates D to EE widths. The 310 is considered a Viberg Common Last on their standard grade and is consistent with a 2030 Last size.
1940 Last (E Width): Based on a US Navy Last with an anatomically designed orthopedic hook corresponding to the natural foot shape. The 1940 Last features an average profile, almond-shaped and moderate toe box, moderate instep, gripped waist, and narrow heel. The 1940 Last is designed as a utilitarian, sleek form that comfortably grips the foot throughout and accommodates C to E+ widths. The 1940 is considered a Viberg Common Last on their standard grade and is consistent with a 2030 Last size.
2020 Last (D Width): Based on an orthopedic Last that grips and hooks with the anatomical shape of the foot to provide a comfortable fit in a sophisticated silhouette. The 2020 features a low profile, almond-shaped and elongated toe box, moderate instep, tapered waist, and snug heel. The 2020 is designed as a shapely Last, where placement is critical, that fits snug throughout and accommodates C to E widths. The 2020 is considered a Viberg Common Last on their standard grade and is consistent with a 2030 Last size.
6478 Last (E Width): Based on a vintage, formal dress Last, the 6478 has an anatomical shape that contours to the foot. The 6478 Last features an average profile, almond-shaped, slightly sprung and elongated toe box, moderate instep, narrow waist, and snug heel. Designed with a dress silhouette, this Last fits snug from heel to toe and accommodates C to E widths. The 6478 is slightly off-grade from Viberg’s standard sizing — consider taking the larger size of your range in Viberg or taking a half (.5) size up from a Viberg Common Last (2030 Last).
2010 Last (E Width): Based on a vintage travel shoe, the 2010 Last is used exclusively for the wholecut Slipper, which is entirely unstructured. The 2010 has a low profile, rounded and roomy toe box, and a moderate instep, waist, and heel. The 2010 is designed to conform and fit like a glove for your foot that accommodates D to EE widths. The 2010 Last is off-grade from Viberg’s standard sizing, and we recommend going one (1) size down from a Viberg Common Last (2030 Last) if planning to wear sockless or with thinner or no-show socks and a half (.5) size down if planning to wear the Slipper with socks.
1003 Last (D Width): Developed exclusively for the Sneaker as causal athletic form with a sleek aesthetic. The 1003 Last has a moderate profile and volume throughout that can be increased with the fully removable footbed. Designed with a comfortable fit for daily function, this Last accommodates C to EE widths. The 1003 is considered a Viberg Common Last on their standard grade and is consistent with a 2030 Last size. For a snug fit, go with the smaller of your range or a half (.5) size down from a Viberg Common Last (2030 Last).
