Description

The French Rapide Jacket by MotivMfg x Division Road is designed as a meeting point between mid-century European commuter garments and tailored outerwear pieces made for the future. This jacket is derived from a vintage cycling style infused with elements of military overshirts, recreated in an anatomically tailored fit. The set-in front and articulated sleeves with a square back yoke and French pleat are borrowed from industrial-era workwear and finished with a belt back hem to allow for movement with a design-centric approach in a cut perfectly balanced between vintage and contemporary. This jacket is produced from an exclusive fabric development between MotivMfg and the finest narrow shuttle looming denim mill in China. The 16 oz. Donegal Selvedge Denim uses various shades of sulfur-dyed black warp, grey weft, and slubby brown core yarns to create a textured, tweed-like twill weave in a 100% Cotton denim. This MotivMfg selvedge denim has undergone a molleton finishing process, has been brushed on the interior to create a flannel feel, and is washed to provide a crispy, structured drape that will mold to the body. This fabric will evolve beautifully through heavy wear as the black yarns fade to grey and combine with the brown core yarns for dressy denim with warmth and pronounced character. Paying homage to the originals and designed with sophisticated finishing, this jacket has a point collar and rolling 5-button front placket with a darted chest aligned with wide welted lower hand pockets and integrated flap front patch chest pockets for large devices to allow for urban functionality and styling versatility. This jacket is packed with superior bespoke and old-world detailing like zigzag back collar stitching, two interior buttoned chest patch pockets, pleated and buttoned cuffs, felled seams, and decorative bartack reinforcements throughout, complemented with the hallmark improvements of a cotton flannel half-lined body and custom burnished gun metal buttons cast in the shape of the plastic 50’s military originals. MotivMfg has re-established a pattern-to-bespoke garment one-roof workshop in Beijing with the ethos, process, techniques, and materials of Savile Row to produce historically informed garments in styles and production methods lost by the West. We are honored to partner with MotivMfg to offer exclusive collaborations for a new and timeless uniform for the Division Road Army.
