The Studio D’Artisan D1864 Kyoto Black Relaxed Tapered G3 Series is a mid-high rise and features a roomy seat and thigh with a strongly tapered leg and a narrow hem. This jean is made from an exclusive washed and dried 14 oz. Japanese Kurozome Selvedge Denim with a Kyoto Black warp and weft produced on one of Japan’s original 50-year-old power G3 looms made by Toyota that runs at extremely low speeds and requires hand operation to function. This results in a lower tension fabric with heavy slub yarns that have a rough texture like the denim of yesteryear’s workwear, with irregularities that will soften quickly and develop a structured drape. This intensive dyeing method dates to the Heian period and is now achieved by the nationally recognized Kyoto Montsuki using binroji nuts, in a repeated garment dip dying process to deeply saturate and layer black dye over the indigo denim. This rare and intricately produced low tension, naturally dyed Kyoto Black denim will develop completely personalized, steely charcoal fade patterns while forming to the body in a personalized fit. Topped off with specialty Studio D’Artisan touches like a commemorative embossed gold on black leather patch and herringbone twill pocket bags, a blackened copper button fly combined with signature details like embossed copper riveting, and a chainstitched waist, seat, and hem, these jeans are your first step on a journey into the past by way of present styles, transported to you by a standout 40-year-old producer of heritage denim.
