Viberg Side Zip Boot - 2050 - Ridgeway - Stone Waxed Kudu
The Side Zip Boot in Stone Waxed Kudu is a new style within the Viberg collection that draws inspiration from military footwear in an advanced western styled pattern. In 1923, B.F. Goodrich coined the term “zipper” for a new style of fastener used on rubber boots, and this piece of hardware has been used on footwear ever since. Viberg elevates the approach with specialty machinery and new production techniques to produce a two-piece upper with a tall and slimmed shaft, featuring a full-length, Italian made, nickel-free Lampo zipper that lies sleekly on this pattern’s medial side. Moving forward, we focused the design to exude the refined dress sense of an English riding boot with a true antelope leather from C.F. Stead. This UK tannery specializes in developing uncorrected Kudu leathers with full aniline finishes to highlight the traits of the wild animal hides, which exhibit real scarring and scratches that are typical of these plain-dwelling animals. With its renowned natural and irregular pebbled grain characteristics and texture, the Kudu is then treated with a subtle wax coating in the tanning process that results in a burnishable matte finish with an added layer of protection to an already robust, yet flexible leather. Enhancing the boot’s historic feel, we utilized the 2050 Last that provides an accommodating fit for a sophisticated silhouette that's derived from a traditional Argentinian riding boot. We then included an antiqued flat welt and 5-Iron midsole to allow for flexibility and a lower profile, with the British made Ridgeway sole to provide lug traction in an elegant form and tread design. The result is a Zip Boot for the modern-leaning and vintage-inspired alike, built to withstand the elements with distinction and grace. Goodyear welted using traditional techniques combined with channeled insoles, this boot is on the front-lines of Viberg innovation and craftsmanship while honoring every facet of its historical influences.
