Description

The Anise Kudu Reverse Derby Shoe is designed from unearthed original patterns produced by Viberg's founder, Edwin Viberg. True to the original half-century old vision, but improved with several iterations on the pattern and now in its final adaptation with a lower quarter, improved fit, and French Binding, this well refined version is about as perfect as it can get. This shoe achieves its updated classic appearance with the Anise Kudu Reverse tanned by the storied C.F. Stead, known for making the finest versions of Kudu in the world. Kudu is an antelope from southern Africa, with skins that are remarkably flexible and strong while also containing distinct and unique grain character. This Janus tannage uses hides that are hand selected for the highest quality, is aniline dyed for a natural feel, and has a finely sanded nap to this full-grain suede that produces an extraordinary luster with all-condition durability that looks better with age. Formed on the 2030 Last for a lower profile and sleek dress silhouette along with elevated tonal details like antique brass eyelets and a tan leather binding, this Derby is suitable for the well-traveled, vintage-inspired modern man. The casual street aesthetic is balanced with the outdoor-ready natural 360 storm welt atop the industrial Vibram 4014 Christy Sole to produce a shoe that leverages Goodyear welting using traditional techniques coupled with channeled insoles. Each step is carefully executed by exacting Viberg craftsmen, making it a perfect lifetime piece for those looking for a Derby Shoe in a collectable, new-classic ready to take on the city with next-level refinement.
