Description

The Snuff Naked Kudu Derby Shoe is designed from unearthed original patterns produced by Viberg's founder, Edwin Viberg. True to the original half-century old vision, but improved with several iterations on the pattern and now in its final adaptation with a lower quarter, improved fit, and French Binding, this well-refined version is about as perfect as it can get. This Derby achieves its updated vintage appearance with the Snuff Naked Waxed Kudu leather tanned by the storied C.F. Stead, known for making the finest versions of Kudu in the world. Kudu is an antelope from southern Africa, with skins that are remarkably flexible and strong while also containing distinct and unique grain character. These hides have been aniline dyed to reveal the renowned natural and irregular pebbled grain characteristics and markings unique to these wild animals, then treated with a white wax coating in the tanning process, yielding a semi-gloss finish with an added layer of protection to an already robust, yet pliable leather. Formed on the 1035 Last with an unstructured toe for a classic silhouette along with a lower profiled and accommodative fit, replete with elevated tonal details like brass eyelets and a natural 360 storm welt atop the sustainably made, comfortable, and high traction Lactae Hevea Crepe Walker Sole, this is a shoe suitable for the well-traveled, vintage-inspired modern man. Setting the bar even higher, the Kudu Derby leverages Goodyear welting using traditional techniques coupled with channeled insoles produced by Viberg's exacting craftsmen, resulting in a piece that will last a lifetime in style with distinguished and casual simplicity.
