Description

The French Shipyard Type-1 Jacket by MotivMfg x Division Road is designed as a meeting point between dutiful industrial era workwear blousons and maritime outerwear, made for the future. This jacket is produced in a heavy duty 12 oz. Olive Drab Bedford Corduroy fashioned after military-grade fabrics made from a double twill weave of 100% ring-spun cotton yarns that creates a highly finished corded ribbing affect for a resilient fabric. This Bedford Corduroy has been reversed for a more pliable and dimensional weave that will evolve into the shape of the wearer and comes from England’s signature corduroy and moleskin mill, Brisbane Moss®, in a fabric that was originally developed for work-wear applications during the British and French Industrial Revolutions and later was adopted for military garments. The Shipyard Type-1 is derived from early 20th century French dock and naval pieces, re-created in an anatomically tailored fit with set-in front and articulated sleeves and a split back yoke that combines with a knife pleated and cinched buckle back borrowed from industrial era workwear, allowing for movement with a design-centric approach in a cut perfectly balanced between vintage and contemporary. Paying homage to the originals and designed with a finished sophistication, this jacket has a pleated chest creating two large device pockets that integrate into the gusseted lower hand pockets, a button front placket with a rolling diamond shaped collar with button closure to combat weather while offering styling versatility. Further, this jacket is packed with superior bespoke and old world detailing like a curved hem, tab button cuffs, felled seams, decorative bartack reinforcements throughout, and custom burnished gun metal buttons cast in the shape of the plastic 50’s military originals. MotivMfg has re-established a pattern-to-bespoke garment one-roof workshop in Beijing with the ethos, process, techniques, and materials of Savile Row to produce historically informed garments in styles and production methods lost by the west. We are honored to partner with MotivMfg to offer completely exclusive collaborations for a new and timeless uniform for the Division Road Army.

Created in Beijing by Daniel Gu, designer from a three-generation tailoring family, and Samuel Wei, a pioneering heritage retailer, MotivMfg seeks to break down the duality between handmade and machine-made clothing and to create garments stemmed from pre-industrial production methods, which are designed in a way that relates to present day. Based in a Beijing loft of a former factory built in the 1950s, all developments from sketch to garment are done within the MotivMfg studio. Using European tailoring methods...
