The French Flight Naval Coat by MotivMfg x Division Road is designed as a meeting point between WWII era leather flight and naval outerwear pieces and a mid-century French military motorist coat in a completely new format made for the future. This 3-in-1 coat is re-created as a lighter, insulating piece with a shell and button-in liner anatomically tailored with a darted shoulder, articulated raglan sleeves, and curved lapel that allows for the collar to take on various functional and stylistic configurations. The Shell and Liner components allow for wearability in multiple seasons and are made in above-military-grade fabrics that will outlast any generation or future war, while providing a structured form in a cut perfectly balanced between vintage and contemporary. This Naval Flight Coat is made in an 11 oz. Dry Waxed Military Canvas that's been finished at the yarn state to provide an antiqued finish in a waterproof 100% Cotton fabric from Scotland’s Halley Stevensons®, renowned for their innovations in dry waxed cotton fabrics, resulting in an elevated coat with flexibility, durability, a dry hand, and a lighter weight beyond the military originals. The quilted corozo button-in Liner is made from a Japanese salt shrunk rip-stop nylon produced by the venerable Shibaya Mills and is filled with 100 Gram European feather down to amplify longevity and warmth. This French Naval Flight Coat is designed for foul weather via a fully buttoned double breasted front with a storm flap that retrieves under the collar with a buttoned back, a storm guard trench-styled back yoke and adjustable tab button cuffs, and melton wool trim on the placket and cuffs for practical refinement. Paying homage to the originals with sophistication, this jacket has beautifully shaped and utilitarian pocketing with wide welt chest hand pockets and lower patch flap buttoned pockets that are gusseted to house plenty of modern armaments, and two interior pockets on the liner that act as exterior pockets when worn individually. Further, this jacket is packed with superior bespoke and old-world detailing like single needle flat felled seams throughout, articulated body stitching, and bartack reinforcements with artisanal Italian pressed and aged brass buttons for an unmatched vintage finish. MotivMfg has re-established a pattern-to-bespoke garment, one-roof workshop in Beijing with the ethos, process, techniques, and materials of Savile Row to produce historically informed garments in styles and production methods lost by the west. We are honored to partner with MotivMfg to offer completely exclusive collaborations for a new and timeless uniform for the Division Road Army.

    About MotivMfg

Created in Beijing by Daniel Gu, designer from a three-generation tailoring family, and Samuel Wei, a pioneering heritage retailer, MotivMfg seeks to break down the duality between handmade and machine-made clothing and to create garments stemmed from pre-industrial production methods, which are designed in a way that relates to present day. Based in a Beijing loft of a former factory built in the 1950s, all developments from sketch to garment are done within the MotivMfg studio. Using European tailoring methods...
