The French Fencing Hunt Vest by MotivMfg x Division Road is designed as a meeting point between tailored and functional Victorian era vests used for hunting, fencing, and riding. This piece is derived from a 1920's fencing jacket pattern, re-designed with an anatomically tailored fit with a curved front hem and adjustable back waist band for a perfectly balanced vintage-to-contemporary vest design to act as a wardrobe staple for an original gentleman. This outerwear-focused vest is made from a 19 oz. Fox Brothers® Classic Covert Cloth that uses the finest 100% Pure New Wool for a highly worsted suiting grade fabric engineered for the outdoors while maintaining a sophisticated aesthetic and luxurious finish. Featured in the V&A Museum for its deep ties to historic milling processes, Covert Cloth was originally created by Fox Bros in the early 1900’s as a military grade stepped twill weave wool to endure regimental riding and harsh conditions, providing outdoor protection for officers and gentleman alike in colors that camouflage to horses and hide dirt and debris. Since 1772, Fox Brothers has produced top tier textiles used in a multitude of applications, from Savile Row tailoring to British Military garments. By sourcing the best fibers from around the world and using intensive hand-driven milling and cording processes, they produce fabrics of the highest grade with comfort, density, and durability all wrapped into one. This French Fencing Hunt Vest is designed with a zipped and buttoned storm placket front and a buttoned storm collar tab, along with ergonomically placed and shaped patch front hand pockets that all allow for outdoor versatility and function with elevated style. Paying homage to the originals but with a refined sophistication, a diamond pattern quilting and wool wadding provides lightweight but effective insulation along with narrow featherwale cotton corduroy lining for a finely finished and comfortable utility piece when layered over or under various garments. Further, this vest is packed with superior bespoke and old world detailing like felled seams, bartack reinforcements, military grade Japanese duck canvas trim for the placket, hem, pockets, sleeves and back band, along with custom cast and burnished gun metal buttons. MotivMfg has re-established a pattern-to-bespoke garment one-roof workshop in Beijing with the ethos, process, techniques, and materials of Savile Row to produce historically informed garments in styles and production methods lost by the west. We are honored to partner with MotivMfg to offer completely exclusive collaborations for a new and timeless uniform for the Division Road Army.

Created in Beijing by Daniel Gu, designer from a three-generation tailoring family, and Samuel Wei, a pioneering heritage retailer, MotivMfg seeks to break down the duality between handmade and machine-made clothing and to create garments stemmed from pre-industrial production methods, which are designed in a way that relates to present day. Based in a Beijing loft of a former factory built in the 1950s, all developments from sketch to garment are done within the MotivMfg studio. Using European tailoring methods...
