Description

The Alden Color 8 Shell Cordovan Plain Toe Blucher Shoe 990 is a signature collection piece that has remained one of the maker's most popular styles for decades. This Plain Toe Blucher utilizes the famous Horween® Shell Cordovan in the timeless Color 8 that has a rich color and will patina to remarkable high and lows, enhanced in depth with a shell shine and finish. Shell is the fibrous muscle tissue from the hind area of a horse hide, which yields a durable and rare material that is Cordovan tanned through a low-yield process that takes over six months to complete. The shell is steeped in vegetable liquors, hot stuffed and slicked, and then dried on individual glass frames and hand cured and shaved to expose the natural qualities of the material. Next, it's dyed individually and by hand with a deep aniline finish, and finally hand glazed to produce the high gloss finish for which the world’s best Shell Cordovan is known. Since 1884, Alden has become the premier maker of dress styled footwear in the United States through an unwavering commitment to quality by using premium materials formed on their signature orthopedic-based Lasts. Their build formula includes natural vegetable tanned leather insoles, cork fill with tempered steel shanks and oak tanned leather midsoles, all assembled by expertly trained craftspeople using genuine Goodyear welting. This Plain Toe Blucher's sophisticated and comfortable dress-casual silhouette is achieved with the Barrie Last and is complimented with a full leather lining, tonal French binding, blind eyelets, and a 360 degree reverse leather storm welt atop an oak tanned double leather sole with a dove-tail heel. Alden is iconic to the American style identity for a reason, and this PTB 990 will serve as a prime example to effortlessly transition from formal and business occasions to casual street styling for decades of use, provided by the gold standard and sole survivor of traditional New England shoe and boot making.

Sizing

Alden sizing and width is based on Brannock Measurements. Generally, for a Barrie, TruBalance, or Modified Last we suggest you select the same size from a common US boot brand like Red Wing and Allen Edmonds, or a half (.5) size down from a Brannock to a full (1) size down from a US sneaker. The Barrie is an accommodative dress-casual Last and corresponds to various foot types as long as the right size is obtained.
