The French Work Trouser by MotivMfg x Division Road is a high rise, single pleated pant with a roomy top block and thigh that tapers to a moderate hem and a clean break for a tailored, modern take on straight leg workwear trousers from the early 20th century that's perfectly balanced in design to be a wardrobe staple for an original gentleman. This trouser is produced in a limited bolt, heavy weight 18 oz. Dark Olive Tweed Twill weave produced at the 200-year-old original Somerset mill by the world famous Fox Brothers® using the finest 100% British Merino Wool in a highly worsted, suiting grade fabric engineered for the outdoors. Since 1772, Fox Brothers has produced top tier textiles used in a multitude of applications, from Savile Row tailoring to British Military garments. By sourcing the best fibers from around the world and using intensive hand-driven milling and cording processes, they produce fabrics of the highest grade with comfort, density, and durability all wrapped into one. This incredibly flexible and robust cloth comes in a natural palette to reflect the Devon coast countryside meeting the Exmoor wilderness that it's designed to confront, and boasts a complex twill weave using shades of moss, bark, and olive yarns for a sophisticated aesthetic and luxuriously textured finish. Paying homage to the original with a finished sophistication, this trouser is fully lined with a cotton and Tencel twill for comfort and flexibility, designed with a single knife pleat for optimal fit and drape, and is given a clean button front with large tacked belt loops that serve as vintage elements with modern refinement. The French Work Trouser is packed with superior bespoke and old-world detailing like slant front pockets, workwear inspired patch back pockets, a darted back yoke, zigzag bartack reinforcements throughout, and custom burnished gun metal buttons cast in the shape of the plastic 50’s military originals. MotivMfg has re-established a pattern-to-bespoke garment, one-roof workshop in Beijing with the ethos, process, techniques, and materials of Savile Row to produce historically informed garments in styles and production methods lost by the west.
