Description

The French Fencing Hunt Vest by MotivMfg x Division Road is designed as a meeting point between tailored and functional Victorian-era vests used for hunting, fencing, and riding. This piece is derived from a 1920s fencing jacket pattern, re-designed with an anatomically tailored fit with a curved front hem and adjustable back waistband for a perfectly balanced vintage-to-contemporary vest designed as a wardrobe staple for an Original Gentleman. This outerwear-focused vest is made from a 20 oz. Exmoor Overcoating Cloth woven in Fox's 200-year-old original Somerset mill using the finest 100% Superfine Merino Wool in a highly worsted, suiting grade fabric engineered for the outdoors and a twill weave with a natural palette that reflects the countryside it's made to confront with a sophisticated aesthetic and luxurious flannel finish. Since 1772, Fox Brothers has produced top-tier textiles used in many applications, from Savile Row tailoring to British Military garments. By sourcing the best fibers from around the world and using intensive hand-driven milling and cording processes, they produce fabrics of the highest grade with comfort, density, and durability, all wrapped into one. This French Fencing Hunt Vest is designed with a zipped and buttoned storm placket front and a buttoned storm collar tab, along with ergonomically placed and shaped patch front hand pockets that all allow for outdoor versatility and functionality with elevated style. Paying homage to the originals but with a refined sophistication, a diamond pattern quilting and wool wadding provide lightweight but effective insulation along with a narrow featherwale cotton corduroy lining for a finely finished and comfortable utility piece when layered over or under various garments. This vest is packed with superior bespoke and old-world detailing like felled seams, bartack reinforcements, and military-grade Japanese duck canvas trim for the placket, hem, pockets, sleeves, and back band, along with custom cast and burnished gunmetal buttons. MotivMfg has re-established a pattern-to-bespoke garment one-roof workshop in Beijing with the ethos, process, techniques, and materials of Savile Row to produce historically informed garments in styles and production methods lost by the West. We are honored to partner with MotivMfg to offer completely exclusive collaborations for a new and timeless uniform for the Division Road Army.

    About MotivMfg

Created in Beijing by Daniel Gu and Samuel Wei in 2016, MotivMfg seeks to break down the duality between handmade and machine-made clothing. Based in the converted loft of a former 1950's factory, all developments, from sketch to garment, are done within the MotivMfg studio. Using European tailoring methods dating back to the 1920’s, all patterns are hand drafted then implemented with drape and baste fittings on real life models, ensuring the spontaneity of creativity.
